12 angry men is awesome for the exact reasons why la la land and interstellar felt lacking. CHARACTERS!!! yes i'm aware that i'm comparing three different worlds here. this is living proof that the audience doesn't have to know personal details about the characters to care about them. everything we learn about them is through the case and the way they choose to handle it which is great. the mess of it all makes it soo intriguing. and i like that the focus isn't on whether the boy is guilty or not, rather choosing to question the jurors biases and how they present themselves in such dire circumstances. not to mention how the messaging is relevant to this day, because i feel like we (online especially) tend to question others before challenging our own expectations & world views

Sorry for sending that on Anon, I'm just usually wary of asking that kind of thing, especially if I don't know the person very well? BUT I just finished the rest of it (and I know what you mean about retraining your brain; I had a relapse with that very word after spending a week with my 17yo brother and six of his friends, so I get you). ANYWAY. THE FREAKING NICKELS THING WAS SO AMAZING AND PERFECT AND I'M EXTREMELY SATISFIED TEN STARS. But yeah, I'm doing the same thing with "bitch".

That's fine! I'm glad you caught it and pointed it out. I was able to go back and change it and it should be fixed now. I just honestly didn't catch it the first time around. 

For the last 10 months I taught at an alternative school and I went on NUMEROUS rants when my students would do things like use "gay" as an insult or fall into misogynistic thinking. Even so, there are phrases and words that I still struggle to delete from my lexicon. What's strange about the word "bitch" is that there seem to be two separate struggles surrounding that word at the same time--one to erase it and one to reclaim it. I think that the possibility for reclamation exists but I'm not sure it'll be entirely successful given the division on the issue. For me, the connotation of the word depends entirely on context and I take offense with it on a case by case basis. ;)

Also, OMG THANK YOU!! Lol! :D I am so glad you liked it!!! It was a lot of fun to write and wow did I not expect it to end up that long. O.O

can i ask why you used the "retard" slur in your nickels fic?

An honest to god slip. One I had not noticed until you pointed this out. 

I am consciously trying to avoiding the biased and problematic colloquialisms I grew up hearing every day ("retarded", "like a girl", "spastic", etc.), but they still appear in my writing. For my original work, I usually notice them somewhere during the editorial process (for example, I spent about twenty minutes trying to come up with a different way of describing crazy weather without using bi-polar recently), but for the fanfiction I've posted there isn't much of an editing process. I write it, someone reads it for glaring typos and unfinished sentences, and then it goes up. Because of that, things like this fall through the cracks even though I am aware of the need to change the language we use and actively trying to do so. 

So, anon, thank you for bringing it to my attention. And thank you even more for doing so in a way that gave me the chance to correct it. I apologize to anyone who may have been offended by the use of the word. It was incredibly unintentional.
