A mysterious machine that first appeared in modern times in the mid-70s to defeat the army of demons that appeared after the Silurian invasion of the Surface World.
The RahXephon was built by the Muan after the first outbreak of the Gyaos and the demonic invasions lead by the entity later dubbed Sauron in myths and legends as a last-ditch effort to save themselves if Gamera failed. However, only one among the Mu knew what powers they tapped into, and when it was first activated, it shunted the Mu into an alternate dimension and destroyed their civilization.
The Elves believe the world was brought into existence by a Song, and the RahXephon was designed to Sing on that level, but the initial experiments shunted the main Mu hubs not destroyed or lost to the Demons into a parallel world, only for them to be unified in a now non-existent timeline in 2012/2028. This is the reality the RahXephon created, but its song was marred by the Old Ones and other forces at work in the world that wished to continue their existence. So even though this is the Instrumentalists (Pilots) perfect world, there are still monsters and demons running around.
The Machine was re-activated by Colonel Jack O'Niell pleading with the Ixtili in February of 2004 when the Ascended Goa'uld Anubis attempted to invade their earth. The epic battle over the Antactic ended when the RahXephon sang its song of destruction.
A similar, more primitive song generator was later found on the planet called Dakara.
The RahXephon stands 70m (230ft) tall.

Ixtili is the Soul of the RahXephon. She is fashioned after the 'dream' of its pilot, Ayato Kamina (born in 1998 in Tokyo, Japan), after his first love (which, by 2028, he will marry). She retains this form, even though she has already tuned the world. Her primary function was fulfilled. Her secondary function is to awaken when the demon armies or plagues of Gyaos appear (which they did in the 1970s during the Demon Wars, the pilot chosen then was Akira Hibiki. His current whereabouts are unknown, but it is likely that the Ixtili granted him a simple wish of a peaceful life similar to that of her Ayato's. She rests beneath the Antarctic Ice--or she did in 2004 when Jack O'Neill convinced her to ensure that Ayato has his happy life by protecting the earth from Anubis' invasion attempt. This let her 'loose' in various forms. She has no qualms about re-writing history and people's minds so that she is thought to have "always" been there. Those with Iron Mind are, of course, immune.
Mentally, the SGC considers her to be unstable. She loves Ayato and does whatever she can to ensure the tuning he wrought continues as planned. And for a God Machine, whatever she can do is quite a lot. Even in the face of Great Old Ones, Elder Gods, and other monstrous influences. However, she knows that she will no longer be accepted by him as he once did (or will do in a lost future), and that saddens her, believing she will never feel that warmth again. She wants him to be happy, even if that means her own suffering.
What she'll do when he, as all mortals do, eventually dies is a frightening prospect. Part of the instability originates in her need to remain to fight the demon empires. Normally, she would have been deleted when her primary function was completed...but as long as it is evil, she can not rest and she is aware that she has to watch the one thing she cares about grow old and die without ever knowing her true feelings.
Don't worry, he doesn't mind being called that. He's been called much worse by pretty women.
Been watching The Big O lately and REALLY wanted to draw Dorothy getting spanked. Which is…a TALL order since she's a robot girl who weighs a literal ton, but I like to think her 'softer features' would be made of silicon. So Roger can just order her to bend over for a few kisses from the nearest cane.
