On this day in 79 A.D. Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried the city of Pompeii in volcanic ash. The destruction was wide and indiscriminate. A couple of years ago on a trip to Seattle my good friend Jamie Marie Riche took me to a rare exhibit of some of the remains that were found in an archeological dig of Pompeii: statues remarkably intact, gladiator equipment, and casts of some of the residents as they were when the destruction hit. It was amazing, but, in the end a reminder that Mother Nature, in the form of a volcano, will do what she wants, when she wants, and doesn't really care what's in the way. Swipe for more. #bigboomtheory #ashtoash #mountvesuvius
