Back in the 80’s it was super common for people to wear an earring in the left ear to say they were straight, and an earring in the right to say they were gay. Throughout the first season, billy wears a pretty obvious earring in his left, as if to make sure everyone sees. I’ve been waiting to talk about this, for me, I like to mention the fact that in the second season Billy came in flashy, confident, and there to prove a point: that he’s an alpha-male and totally straight... Which obviously he’s about as closeted and repressed as it gets... but he makes a point to have this flashy asf earring in the whole season, like it’s very obvious and dangly (btw I feel the earring is a mystery, did Billy steal it? Did he make it? Was it a gift? Maybe a fuck you to Neil?) but look at this freakin dangling earring:
He went out of his way to be extra asf about that earring; making it bright and obvious but as the season progresses, especially that scene between him and Steve; I felt like a facade had been broken (much like his broken expression towards Steve). Now, after some time, this season it’s a simple loop earring; something subtle and not as flashy... (example):
like the wall of having to be this faux alpha-male vibe has been replaced with him working (and getting a tan, plus, a tattoo) and secretly exploring the idea of questioning himself... like his whole infatuation with Steve, and their fight (I mean, do y’all find it weird he decided to take a job that requires savings lives??? Aside from bossing people around) that he just drops the flashy earring for something less noticeable..., perhaps even he’s more secure with his personal shift in character?
