Today marks the 28th anniversary of Biohazard 2, the first meeting of Leon and Claire
January 29, 1998 marks the release of Biohazard 2, a landmark title that helped define the survival horror genre and elevated Capcom’s series from a niche experiment into a mainstream classic.
The game introduced two iconic characters: Leon S. Kennedy, a rookie police officer, and Claire Redfield, a college student searching for her missing brother. Both arrive in Raccoon City, unaware that the entire city has already collapsed under the spread of the t-Virus.
Biohazard 2 features separate scenarios for Leon and Claire, connected through the innovative Zapping System, where actions taken in one scenario directly affect the other. The same incident is retold from different perspectives, making repeated playthroughs meaningful and rewarding.
From the ruined streets of Raccoon City to the R.P.D. and secret laboratories, Biohazard 2 delivered a tense, cinematic experience filled with unforgettable moments.
Twenty-eight years later, Biohazard 2 remains both the beginning of Leon and Claire’s story and one of the genre’s most enduring legends.
