I love how this implies that freeing yourself from the clutches of DC Comics for even a handful of years is impressive. Like it's a honey tipped black hole constantly drawing you back in but you can never fully escape once you're in its grasp. Don't forget you're here forever.

yes! the tv shows totally killed it for me, before then even if i didnt always like the movies i kept up bc it was like communal almost everyone i knew was watching and we could discuss it and chat and then the shows were such a drag multiple hrs a week dedicated to not so great tv i couldnt do it lol

Oh yeah and also all the MCU shows were Disney+ exclusives so if you didn't want to pay for that subscription, you were just fucked. Whereas before all the movies were shown in theaters so if you didn't have Disney+, it wasn't a big deal.

Honestly the MCU killed itself by spitting out too much content and becoming inaccessible. One of the defining features of the MCU was that all the movies built on each other and you'd get call backs to previous movies and it built this broader world. That was part of the magic that made it so great.

But the second you either start making some of that content more inaccessible or you start overloading people with too much content, then it becomes too difficult/too expensive to keep up with and all those little call backs and such will go over peoples' heads. And then it loses that magic.

Like when the Disney+ MCU shows started coming out I was in college on a shoestring budget. I couldn't afford the Disney+ subscription costs on top of everything else. It just became too much and inaccessible and then when I'd go see the few MCU movies I still wanted to see, there would be quite a bit that went over my head and it lost that magic for me. It just wasn't worth it anymore.

The MCU had such a special thing in the 2010s because it really was such a cultural phenomenon and like you said, people would talk about it and exchange theories and it was a huge thing. And I think they ruined it with their own greed (as they often do).

I was once a Jon Kent Superfan until his age up, and I think that's what snapped me out of it. I didn't agree with you that Jon Kent had no depth what so ever. But when I realized that I only liked the fact he was a cute kid but other than that, without it, he is no fun. I'm currently reading Pre Crisis comics, and I never had more fun reading comics before, so much better than anything DC wrote for Jon Kent.

!!! Welcome to the pre-crisis fan club (I'm assuming the crisis you're meaning is Flashpoint, but if it's COIE or any of the other many crisis events, my apologies for being mistaken).

Also apologies that you will never be able to view anything DC has put out since 2011 ever the same again. Although the pre-New 52 universe has its fair share of duds, as a whole it is leaps and bounds better than what DC is doing now. The New 52 was the single worst thing DC has ever done and they have never fully recovered.

I should say the thing that drives me the most insane about Jon is there is so much fucking potential given his backstory. SO much fucking potential. He's a Kryptonian/Human hybrid son of Superman, there's so many ways they can take that and yet DC wastes it on making him a Walmart-brand copy of his dad but a little gayer.

I've always said the way they should've taken Jon was to make him reject the Superman mantle. Show him before that struggling to come to terms with the fact that he's Superman's son and feels like he has a legacy to live up to. Feels like he has to take over for his dad someday because everyone expects him to. He can easily confide in Damian about this as Damian is probs one of the few people who really understands that same pressure.

Then there's a breaking point where Jon realizes that he just simply does not want to be Superman and rejects the mantle. Clark is not angry but really confused because boy he could've sworn that Jon wanted to follow in his footsteps (Jon didn't, but he loved his dad so he first thought he did and later acted like he did). Show all that angst and miscommunication there.

Maybe Jon goes and talks to Kon during this time for advice because they have polar opposite experiences. Kon always wanted to be Superman but felt like he couldn't earn it while Jon had never truly wanted to be Superman but had it handed to him on a silver platter. Very interesting dynamic to explore.

Then you have a long arc where Jon goes and discovers himself. Hangs up the cape for a little while. Discovers what life is like outside of the superhero world. Maybe his mom helps him with this. Jon learns to be someone other than Superman's son, he learns to be himself.

AND THIS IS WHERE YOU BUILD UP HIS FUCKIN CHARACTER!!! Since it is comic books it's not like there will never be action, of course there will, but it will be situations where Jon feels obligated to act because it's the right thing to do. But he doesn't do so as a "Super", he does so as himself (not revealing his identity just. not as Superman's son).

Also during this soul searching period is when he realizes he's bi and you can also do a whole thing with that.

And then slowly but surely he starts to realize that he can be a hero without just following in his dad's footsteps. He figures out how to do it on his own terms. And he comes back to heroing. I'm torn about whether or not he'd still wear the "S" or decide to do his own thing after that but either way you get the picture.

If DC wanted him to be a compelling character, then they absolutely could've done it. But DC doesn't care about good storytelling anymore. They are riding the remnants of the good storytelling they did in the 80s-00s until they crash into a wall.
