Whimsical carvings have a long tradition among Pennsylvania German woodworkers. Using a real tree branch as a perch and cut iron nails for the legs, the maker of this piece created an imaginary flock of many different birds. In some Pennsylvania fraktur drawings, birds symbolize the human soul, so this gathering may have been intended to represent heavenly harmony. On view in our new early American galleries.

No art from me tonight (I'm way behind in my projects and I need a nap) but I thought I'd bring the Bird Tree back, and over from Instagram, this time to sing you all a song... :) :) :) San Leandro, Ca

The Bird Tree (1987-2024)
Christina Kubisch creates immaterial and invisible sound environments that are activated by the public’s interaction through devices made directly by the artist.
The work on display, The Bird Tree, seems to convey these two aspects of the artist’s work, the pictorial and the audio: on the one hand, the cable that draws the shape of a tree; on the other, the presence of an invisible sound environment, within which the observer immerses himself by creating their visual path. maxii.art
The Bird Tree, an important sound installation by Christina Kubisch, is a large tree made of electrical cables that allows listeners to hear bird songs from around the world. itsliquid.com
