The Pace Report: "Freedom Music For All People" The Joey DeFrancesco & The Peoples Interview

Congratulations to organist Joey DeFrancesco for his 2017 Recording Academy / GRAMMYs​ nomination for Best Jazz Instrumental Album "Protest Freedom" on the Mack Avenue Records label.

The Pace Report: "A Bicoastal Music Timeline" The Kevin Eubanks Interview

Jazz guitarist Kevin Eubanks performed music from his third Mack Avenue release, "East West Time Line," at Birdland in New York City. The album features performances with many of Kevin's friends and contemporaries that live on both the east and west coast including Marvin 'Smitty' Smith, Rene Camacho, Mino Dominique Cinelu, Bill Pierce, Dave Holland, and Orrin Evans.

During the weeklong Birdland run, Kevin's band featured Jeff 'Tain' Jeff Watts, Dave Holland, and Nicholas Payton.

I sat down with Kevin to talk about the new recording as well as talk about one of his important musical influences, Terry Kath, the former guitarist of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted group, Chicago. Also, how he came to play and study jazz at a later age.

The Pace Report: "Freedom Music For All People" The Joey DeFrancesco & The Peoples Interview

Organist Joey DeFrancesco performed music with his new quartet, The People, recently at the famed Birdland Jazz Club in New York City. Joey DeFrancesco & The People's upcoming Mack Avenue Records release "Project Freedom" features Joey on organ, keyboards, and trumpet, Jason Brown on drums, Troy Roberts on saxophones, and Dan Wilson on guitar. The group covers standards such as Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" and James Weldon Johnson's "Lift Every Voice and Sing."

In this special edition of The Pace Report, I had the honor of sitting down with Joey and members of The People to discuss the new CD, how they've meshed musically, and why Joey decided to switch from the traditional trio setting to a quartet.
