What a cutie! Bistorta sp./Polygonum sp. Found it at a high pass in Sichuan's Litang County, over 4000m above sea level.

A useful plant to create low ground-cover for a moist soil, in full sun or partial shade, is Bistorta affinis 'Superba' (East Indian knotweed). This is a semi-evergreen perennial and the spikes of small pale pink flowers become deeper crimson as they age.

On this rock garden the Bistorta affinis 'Darjeeling Red' (East Indian knotweed) had produced a mat of leaves, which have turned rich russet brown for the winter. In the summer there are spikes of pink flowers which deepen to red. This plant thrives in moisture retentive soil in sun or part shade but may spread quickly in wet soil.

Ideal for a moist soil Bistorta officinalis 'Superba' will tolerate drier conditions once established. This is a vigorous, clump-forming herbaceous or semi-evergreen perennial that spreads easily.
