early design for my sister and i's comic project "bites n' bribes" - a comedy about a group of gangsters starting a restaurant as a money laundering front
I love the bites n bribes designs, they're so creative and I love how you incorporated food motifs 💕💕 Is there any reason behind the foods that you chose to represent each character?
thank you!!! i really love hiding little details in lol ^^ the designs are advised by my sister, and are currently just my early interpretations of her descriptions, so a lot of the food motif inspiration comes from what she describes.
for example, rio saffron (named by my sister) is intended to be a sort of chef who keeps the group's restaurant operating, even though she isn't aware that the group are gangsters. because of the chef thing - cooking, spices, etc - and my sister's description of rio as firey and determined, i decided on a chilli and spice motif!
her ponytail spikes out to mimic flames, the pocket on her apron is intended to slightly resemble a garlic, her earrings are supposed to be salt and pepper shakers, and her bag (which is sentient) is a pepper-shaped puppy! there's also the more obvious stuff like the cutlery in her hair and the food attached to the bag lol.
the same also goes for mallory, who was 100% designed by me - i just made her hair bell pepper shaped lol. my sister said she reminds her of a garden egg though!
for liexia, i wasn't really thinking of many food motifs to incorporate in her design, but by sister's working on editing the design right now so i'll probably end up posting a foodier interpretation of that soon! and for bella, as she's a bartender, i just tried to make her hair look a bit like beer foam!
other than that, my sister wanted a peacock motif for her - thus informing the peacock feathers on her headband ^^
