2nd Split Opens in VA

The second split opened in VA with a lot of promise.  Birds had pushed into the area in decent numbers and the season had been closed since the first week of October.  Unfortunately, the birds moved out about as quickly as they moved in and the hunting was tough!  A change of plan was in order if we were going salvage this first weekend of the split.

Some timely scouting took us to a new spot with hopes of getting some shooting right at first light.  As shooting time approached, so did the ducks!  We were are to take a few Mallards and two bonus Black Ducks with some in your face, fast shooting action.  With temps dropping and NW winds blowing as I type this, this second split of the season is shaping up to be a good one!

Why Do We Band Ducks?

Temperatures in the single digits coupled with winds in the double digits put the windchill at the other side of zero. You know that expression, “The weather’s great…If you are a duck” certainly was in play this day.
