One short film after another!
As time marches on and we are now less than a week from shooting our latest short film project, "#lessthan140", I thought now would be a good time to give you all a bit of an insight into the "artistic" side of Black Katana.
Our first foray into short film, "The Wishing Well", is a period drama with a slightly supernatural touch. Set in 1912 and 1942, the story follows Elizabeth - a troubled young woman touched by the tragedy of war who comes to a ruined chapel in the countryside to remember her grandmother and gets much more than she bargained for. We starting shooting the film back in the summer of 2012, but after we were blighted by a string of cast changes, adverse weather, and even a total rewrite halfway through the shoot (!) we finally managed to wrap the shoot in April 2013. Our editing wonder-woman Mari-Lii is now in the process of trying to make all the fragments into a coherent story before we show a rough cut to a feedback focus group next week. Wish us luck! And of course I'll post an update when we get a fine cut online - after I've stopped shouting from the rooftops about it that is!
Our next short film adventure, "#lessthan140", is already well underway as I mentioned before. This story, developed by Si specifically for Virgin Media Shorts 2013, follows a socially awkward office worker, @LonelyChris, as he tries desperately not to miss his opportunity for a first date with his big crush, @OfficeGirl. Things would be so much easier if he could just fit his complicated emotions into 140 characters! We're working to a tight deadline for this project as the competition closes on July 18th, so this is definitely our number one priority right now. But we're still looking for an actor to play @LonelyChris, so if you fancy a day running around Manchester looking in peril this Sunday, please get in touch! There's virtually no dialogue so you don't need to be an acting pro, but there will be lots of expressive looks and gestures required. Seriously, if you're a guy around the age of 30 and you'd be up for it, please drop us an email at [email protected]. You could just save our bacon and be in an awesome effects-packed short film!
But enough about our casting worries. The third short I'd like to tell you about is one that's particularly close to my heart. It's called "Boris!" and it follows a couple on their quest to find their beloved family cat, Boris, after he goes missing. I can't tell you much more than that without giving anything away, but it's a cute and quirky tale that's sure to warm the cockles of your heart. This project's kind of on hold until we get #lessthan140 wrapped, but the script's being drafted and we'll be casting very soon, so watch this space!
And if that wasn't enough to get you excited, you must be a crazy person! It's certainly more than enough for me. I'm going to have a lie down now.
Siobhan & the Black Katana Posse.
