Looking for effective ways of parenting African American boys? Here are several ways you can champion becoming a parent that’s proud of your
Raising African American boys in today’s world isn’t easy, and it’s something that weighs heavily on many of our hearts. I just read this powerful blog, Parenting African American Boys in a Complex Modern World, by Karen Blake, and it hit home in all the…
Perfect children..
What is it like, where do you start?
First by helping them understand their emotions and what they're trying to convey to you and others.
Guiding them into understanding why they are feeling the way they're feeling, but ultimately allowing them to wisely decide how to execute proper plans in order to successful and persevere.
Second, always being supportive no matter what. Teach them to be truthful and authentic in who they are and what they do.
If your child feels that they shouldn't be involved, but that is based on the malice in their environemnt teach them to persevere.
If your child feels that someone else is making an effort and they're not capable themselves, teach them to practice until they know their fully capable.
Third, always make sure they are comfortable in their environment and the company you bring around.
Fourth, teach them at an early age that responsibility is a big deal in society. All while teaching them the strategies to protect themselves from harm caused by the world.
If you feel there is more, then feel free to add to this post.
Father - son early morning smoking prep #juneteenth - I’m sure that they are out there talking smack and shooting hoops. This is a huge part of Juneteenth! Black male fellowship is an often overlooked aspect of the black American experience. #blackhistory #blackparenting #joy https://www.instagram.com/p/CBnbMpcg0X1/?igshid=15djwt25ckk6o
Social distancing day 95: Just got into an argument with a white woman at Tulmeadow Farm because she came up to us and unsolicited proceeded to educate me about the fact that she’s a nurse and the kids don’t need to wear masks in public while outside. I told that Karen that my husband is a physician and I didn’t ask for her unsolicited pandemic inspired parenting opinion. So, here’s my unsolicited advice to all well intended white folks: when you see black families in public, resist the urge to police black bodies pandemic style. Mind your business. We were just trying to have ice cream with our kids. Like @codyrigsby says: Do you boo! If you see a family with masks, mind your own. If you see a family without masks, mind your own. If you see a family with more than two children and are wondering if they are not social distancing, mind your own! Folks, just mind your own business. Bad things can happen to black bodies with or without masks, if you insert your nose in their business. #socialdistancing #blackparenting #mindyourbusiness #unsolicitedadvice https://www.instagram.com/p/CBeHFBYgc2p/?igshid=1aqto8n2xc7lx
BLACK WOMEN DESERVE TO LOVE & TO BE LOVED!
It hurts as a black man to hear, and see a black girl/woman not being loved!
We must teach the next generation of black men, not just to be loved by black women but to give love to black women!!
We must teach these black boys to show loyalty and respect to any black girl they meet!
PS - To all parents, teach your kids: “Anything they say in front of any black girl, they should be able to say in front of you!”
Had to vent..😔
