One more @blakealexanderdowning unicorn, then I’ll get back to my own magical equines. I couldn’t resist coloring this delicate teacup alicorn’s wings.

I finally bought @blakealexanderdowning‘s coloring book, Crystal Hooves, and it is every bit as awesome as I thought it would be. Not only is he probably my favorite unicorn artist, but he also gives explicit permission to post finished pages online, as long as it’s not for profit.

what do you use for the highlights/white lines, if you don't mind me asking? And are these on newsprint?
No problem at all! All the toned paper doodles as of late have been in *I think* a strathmore grey toned sketchbook (it was cheap lol), the main dark marks are just ballpoint pen, and the white has been a white ‘galaxy marker’. Found them at ac moore a few months back and figured it would be worth a shot. Overall, they moooostly work (lately this one has been working GREAT, which is odd since a month back, not so much). Been pretty hit n miss, but when it does work it’s lovely.

Hey, fanart is practice, and practicing is productive! There ya go.
haha fair point! And I have to admit it's really refreshing being able to dive into something I didn't have to compose myself.

I don’t use instagram myself; but whenever I see an artist use instagram, they are usually taking lopsided, weirdly-angled, poorly-lit pictures of their art (with drawing utensils included). Don’t do that, at least. It drives me nuts.
Fair point, and definitely something I've seen lots of myself (it annoys me too.) I can understand limiting image sharing to detail shots in order to ramp up anticipation over a soon-to-be-finished piece, but the warped perspective/angles is infuriating to me since I'd like to be able to make out some of the image without "figuring it out" so to speak. It feels very counterintuitive. When it comes to the tools being used...I can see the appeal just in getting to see what kinds of brushes/nibs/points the artist is using, but most of the time it seems like an additional sticker that's screaming "LOOK HOW ARTSY I AM."
At this point I'm doubting I'll sign up on instagram. I always wind up grabbing my camera instead of my phone just because I know I won't be happy enough with whatever my phone manages to capture....
