Self-defense Assignment - Aikido
Takashi had joined the self-defense class with the intention of better improving his ability to defend himself even without Nyanko-sensei, but knowing the theories behind various styles were one thing, and applying them another altogether. Still, the assignment had been pretty interesting, and Takashi thought that he could actually be interested in learning the martial art he had researched on.
Of course, there was also Kendo. While less applicable to most situations since one needed something like a sword to apply the techniques, the fact that bamboo had some sort of power against spirits was definitely something to consider.
With a small sigh, he looked down at the paper before him, knowing that he still preferred to avoid having to hurt any of the youkai.
Aikido is a martial art that focuses on redirecting the force exerted by the attacker instead of trying to face it head on, and was created by Ueshiba Morihei with the intention to allow practitioners to defend themselves whilst minimizing injury inflicted to the assailant.
The advantages of using this martial art for self-defense include being able to retaliate even against an opponent who is much stronger than you, since use the opponent's strength against them instead of exerting your own. Additionally, the flexibility of Akido techniques mean that it can be applied in a wide variety of situations, and is useful in situations with either single or multiple attackers.
