the feeling of the statue underneath her fingertips is cool to the touch, like the railing of banpo bridge on an airy spring night. memories of a time before the fear of death came from a debilitating disease rather than blood sport fill her sense, from the crisp night air to the sounds of cars rushing by, and she’s not sure if it’s because the memory is so vivid, or if it’s the remaining effects of whatever drug they’d given them in that dark and empty tank.
it doesn’t matter anyway, because as soon as the memories flash in her mind, they’re overtaken by the loud blaring of the alarm triggered by the pads of her fingers on whatever metal or stone these statues are made of. her senses are on high alert, and her eyes can’t tear away from the statue far enough to find sehun.
she’d considered it bad luck that they’d come across one another considering the fight they’d had prior to the game being announced, but as far as allying herself with someone from the hive, sehun isn’t the worst pick of the bunch. there are far more selfish and traitorous people within the seoul hive---lessons learned the hard way are harder to forget. and if she were being honest with herself, there isn’t anyone else she can think that she trusts with her life as much she trusts sehun, anger issues and all.
(that’s a lie. there’s one other person she’d trust just as much, but he isn’t around anymore.)
quick reflexes find him in time, but the initial plan of escaping before they can be found are dashed when she hears footsteps in close vicinity. there must have been mercenaries waiting nearby for any poor sap to come by and touch the statues; it’s a shame that it had to be them.
“get ready; they’re coming in hot.”
lithe fingers find her cylinder and her weapon forms its shape in her hand. by no means does she intend to stay and fight until every enemy is down---as soon as she finds an opening to escape, she’s grabbing sehun and they’re booking it out of there---but a fight is inevitable despite their initial plans. “don’t stay in one spot too long. keep moving. this is only the first part.”
