They are so named, in part, because they resemble blue jet planes, but mainly because of their association with the atmospheric phenomena known as Blue Jets. The creatures seek out these electrical discharges which occur at the tops of cumulonimbus clouds and it is theorized that they they possess a very unique biochemistry allowing them to feed on charged particles. It is postulated that the creatures have evolved a sort of biochemical based ion drive to maneuver through the upper atmosphere. Bleujets have been observed to be capable of propelling themselves, incredibly, to super-sonic speeds through the expulsion of charged particles. Blue Jets: Sprites are large-scale electrical discharges that occur high above thunderstorm clouds, or cumulonimbus, giving rise to a quite varied range of visual shapes flickering in the night sky. They are usually triggered by the discharges of positive lightning between an underlying thundercloud and the ground. https://www.instagram.com/p/BtCVSnClmAP/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1f6u6gmv845sn
