Bird #26 - the blue crane (VU)

This crane has quite a small range, found only in South Africa and a tiny region in Namibia. The feather plumes trailing behind them are elongated tertiary feathers growing from near the base of the wing, not tail feathers!

The birds engage in 'dances' that include jumping, running, bowing and flapping. They also toss grass/random objects on the ground, which I think is a great thing for such an elegant looking bird to do.
