I am committed to lounge piano vibes from here on out.
I was really motivated to continue working on it after I did the first version - lyrics and editing notes under the cut. Tagging @orcusnox as promised - this is now properly song-shaped!
Lyrics
[you're brand new to me
now I'm snared in your smile
you see me like it's my first time] [1]
[and it rings true to me
like we're not out of context
can I call it in if you want this?] [2]
[do you even know me, yes you do
stuck my head in a crowded room
cause every universe has a me and you
and every me got your number on my phone] [3]
[and if I got all this time here with you
and the crowd in my head tonight] [4]
[then it's simple, blink and you'll miss it
thoughts they stick like glitter
maybe it's not the same but
can I tell you a secret?] [5]
[bye bye (bang bang) gone today, but tomorrow---
you'll look like someone I know
someone I know] [6]
[so hey stranger, you know what they say
"came for the money and stayed for the fun"
you had your pick---where do you belong?] [7]
[and if I got the time, I can drift away
but I'll be here when you get home] [8]
[cause it's simple, blink and you'll miss it
thoughts they stick like glitter
maybe it wasn't real but
can I tell you a secret?] [9]
[bye bye gone today, but tomorrow---
you'll look like someone I know
someone I know] [10]
[1] [4-6] improved rhythm and reduced verbosity to let the lines breathe. bane of my existence. the first line of [6] was one of the first lines I originally wrote for this song, but discarded in the previous iteration
[2] new melodic material
[3] unchanged. this was the first full phrase I wrote for this song and I'm attached to it
[7] uses melody from [2] for symmetry. also replaced placeholder lyrics
[8] uses melody from [4] for symmetry
[9-10] slight variation in the chorus
intro/outro is ad-libbed because I needed to start and end it somehow, and lyrically doesn't fit (it's not about leaving, it's about belonging).
given the lyrics, the title for this version cannot be anything other than "someone I know" given the lyrics. if the lyrics change again, title will also change.
Hi! Just wanted to share how I randomly came across The Wolf and His King a few days before official release at my local Waterstones, wrote the title down, was confused for a moment when I couldn't find an ebook preview, wow it's a book in a bookshop a few days before the ebook is even officially out! That is kinda exciting. Then I figured out the chapter titles corresponded to 3rd person / 2nd person, that was more exciting! I swear I'm actually a coherent and nuanced person in real life. I love your book! I'm like 30% through. I will make so many notes in the margins
Ah, I hope you continue to enjoy it! Yes, it found its way into a few shops early :)
I recently went through a fair bit of the spideypool tag on ao3 and this song is the result.
Tagging: @ciceqi (thank you for Mutable Materials!) @orcusnox (thank you for Bound to You!) @rupertgayes (thank you for Just My Type!). I loved your fic so much, please consider this a very (very very) vague fanart.
Lyrics under the cut. Writing notes under the lyrics.
lyrics
you're brand new to me
blind me with your smile
now you see me like it's my first time
and it reads true to me
like we're not out of context
can I call it in
do you want this
do you even know me, yes you do
stuck my head in a crowded room
cause every universe has a me and you
and every me got your number on my phone
so what if maybe I got a full house in my head tonight
maybe it's alright
stay 'til tomorrow
it's simple
blink and you'll miss it
thoughts they
stick like glitter
can I
tell you I'm serious
yours babe /
if you can keep a secret
then i can let go
you look
like someone I know
can I
tell you I'm serious
can I
so hey stranger
you know what you said
came for the money and stayed for the fun
light pollution and pumpkin spice and the weather plays along
and I know you fill in the gaps
but I'll be there on your side of the bed
half asleep when you get home
flip the lights on
notes
I like imagining where a song might play in-universe, so since the first idea for this song was a sort of sassy major key r&b, I was thinking of it as something run-of-the-mill cheerful playing on a radio in the back of a food truck. Then it morphed a bunch of times; it was briefly about love and depression until I had to take some lyrics out; it finally became a song about needing to say, hey I'm serious about this, even when you already have each other's backs in all ways.. which is something I can really relate to.
Wanted to finish at least some part of this song while we're still in October.. This is an "inspired by"; if I were to continue into the chorus, it would double down on the metaphors (masks! pixie dust! roads! thorns and roses!), or maybe be like, what a way to make a living, Toby.
Lyrics below the cut.
You make a really good nemesis
it's the continuity I need today
cause I woke up and the world was changed
so don't get carried away
Webbed fingers, tooth and claw
I thought I knew everything there was to know
but I woke up and the world was changed
so don't say you said so
people here have big hearts / I know, I know, I know we painted mine pink / you were never out for blood, just as well I had a hunch / I know you’re here to catch me
and I am at my worst, right / it’s hidden in plain sight / one bad dream away from giving up / brought you a story but it’s white lies / I am at my worst, right / they’re never far away now / crowds in the streets and the city lights / wait ‘til the dawn and I start to cry
so would you wanna dance, darling / I know your big heart / nothing’s ever lost, just hidden / in the saddest thing on your playlist / would you wanna dance, darling / I know your big heart / nothing’s ever lost, just hidden / in the saddest thing, the saddest thing
Hi, I've been enjoying your Castlevania posts in the same way ART enjoys watching media with Murderbot - I feel like I get the appeal more and more now. I watched until mid-season 2 and then subjected everyone in my vicinity to a rant of, of course Warren Ellis would do this to me, this is like reading Transmetropolitan all over again, I don't get these characters at all. But you make me want to pick it back up! :D
oh my gosh! thank you this feels like a huge compliment, its super cool that the things that made it appealing to me are coming thru in The Memes. (Especially since I've been trying to keep Tumblr posts about it somewhat reigned in, seeing as it's a mostly-dead fandom that I got into late)
It's a thing I enjoy differently from Murderbot, which is Objectively Good the whole way through—with CV I definitely had moments of "why this" but ultimately came around to liking characters I initially disliked, etc. It's probably best that I got into it Late, really, so I could do the whole thing all at once!
If Azula is stuck being a weapon, at least she can try pointing her sharp edges at what’s wrong with society!
If the Gaang wholeheartedly supports her in this, all the better!
This is totally fanart (fan music? whatever, music is art) for Of Turtleducks and Orphanages by @thiscryptidischronicallyyours aka the “Azula is trying hard to be a sane productive member of society” fic.
Verse 1: They said I need peace - but peace won’t clear up my mind / They said I need distance - but it’s not something I like / I feel like a stone that skips if you throw it just right / I feel like an arrow that sings when it’s ready to strike
Chorus 1: So I go upstairs, lock myself in my room / Throw myself into work like I do / Changing styles into something brand new / And if they call it healing, that’s them talking / Don’t go fixing what’s not broken / Can’t you tell, I made the most of it
Verse 2: Here in the palace, lost in the games that I played / It’s all in the walls now, whole years left in the past / Chasing my brother around, but I didn’t think straight / Now here I am, and they all say it can last
Chorus 2: So I go upstairs, lock myself in my room / Throw myself into work like I do / Getting wise to the things I once knew / And if they call it healing, that’s them talking / Don’t go fixing what’s not broken / Can’t you tell, I made the most of it
Outro: If they call it healing, let them talk / And for the thousandth time, I’m ok / I know that I made the most of it
