This is not the last time Shigaraki Tomura falls into the void...
Also, this moment parallels Nana's death in a heartbreaking way. All for One was pretending to entrust his will to Shigaraki by pushing him out of the fray a la Shimura Nana's final fight when she left the future to All Might. Except All for One knew he was only using Shigaraki and he was unlikely to be killed while this fight was on national television.
For both scenes, Gran Torino was present. Gran Torino was the one who grabbed All Might so that he would survive his first battle with All for One. But Gran Torino failed to reach Shigaraki. (Yes, unlike with All Might, Gran Torino wasn't trying to save him...but in retrospect things would have turned out better for Shigaraki if he had been caught here)
And of course, this scene further establishes Izuku and Shigaraki as narrative foils. At this point in the manga, both characters were driven to fulfill the role set out for them by a benefactor/savior that they admired and wished to emulate.
