“There’s Been An Accident”
“Jack…” He’d pulled his friend aside, eyes glancing up at him. “Grissom’s woman? Why?”
Jack let his eyes linger towards the woman, giving her a once over with a smug grin before he turned his attention back to Bob. “Because I can, Bob-o. Now, let go.”
He’d let go of his friend, standing there as he watched Jack take the big boss’ girl into his bedroom, throwing a tie on the doorknob as a signal to Bob to leave before he shut the door. Great. Just great. He didn’t get it. He didn’t see what Jack saw in the woman. Half the time she was drugged out of her mind. Grissom liked to keep her stocked in clothes and whatever pill of the month she desired. Grissom. Damnit, Jack.
Years later and Alicia was still around and even more drugged than she used to be. After Jack had come back from the accident at Axis as Joker, he’d saw fit to maul her face with acid. Now the woman wore a plain, white porcelain mask with no expression to cover her face. Bob had mused that the mask fit her personality — blank and dull.
When Jack resurfaced, after everyone thought he’d died that night, Bob had been beyond ecstatic. He’d been more than destroyed and lost thinking that his only friend and the only person that he’d ever truly cared for was gone. Even if he was physically changed, the Joker was still Jack. His Jack was alive and because of that Bob couldn’t be happier.
He vaguely remembered seeing Alicia in passing. He’d run into her shortly after the accident. Bob was almost in tears, informing her what had happened to Jack, but Alicia hadn’t been phased. Not even in the slightest. To her, it just mean a little less attention, less sex and less money. She’d rolled her eyes at him and told him to leave, huffing past him.
Bob had been aware of the greeting she’d given Jack when he resurfaced. She should have been happy to see he was alive, but she was far from that. She’d fainted and Jack had problems for days getting her to come around, only changed when Bob and the rest of the goons were able to supply her with more pills. She numbed herself, disgusted in Jack in much the same way she used to look at Grissom. She didn’t love him. She didn’t care and she never had. She didn’t deserve him.
Now, he was alone with her, asked to keep an eye on her at the penthouse while Jack was busy doing something. Bob stood still, watching her move to the window late at night. The apartment was dark and nothing but the moonlight from the Gotham night shone in when she opened the window, illuminating the porcelain of her mask.
He sighed, figuring she was just high again. Bob watched as she opened the window all the way and leaned her top half all the way out, blonde hair blowing in the night breeze. He moved closer, focused on her. If Jack was here, he’d pull her in and tell her to stay away from windows, but Jack wasn’t here…
Stepping quietly in booted feet, Bob drew closer to the woman he’d grown to hate. Grissom was dead and Jack was alive, but she didn’t care. He did. She didn’t deserve a man like Jack. She didn’t love him. He did.
It was simple, really. He could get away with it. Jack would never know, and part of him wondered if he’d even actually care. Just one push and she’d be gone forever. He’d finally be rid of her and maybe, just maybe, Jack might turn his focus to someone that mattered and someone who actually gave a shit.
Alicia didn’t even see him coming. She’d stared down at the street below, thinking of taking her mask off, but then she remembered. She was hideous. Disfigured and horrifying — just like him. Her beautiful face was ruined. If only Jack Napier had just stayed dead like he should have. Besides, didn’t he know who told Grissom in the first place? Alicia had always enjoyed men fighting over her and she’d been a little bored lately with both of her men. It just didn’t have quite the desired effect she’d hoped for.
Bob’s mind was made up. He wasn’t backing down and he may not have another opportunity like this. Black, finger-less-gloved hands grabbed hold of the slender frame of the woman at the window. He felt her tense only for a moment before he gave a hard shove and watched her toppled out of the window from the top of the building. He stood there, saw one last glimpse of that expressionless porcelain face, heard what might have been a scream from her as she dropped to the ground. He lingered there for several moments before he backed away and grabbed the phone.
“Jack? You might want to come back to the penthouse,” his eyes were still fixed on the window where Alicia had just been and now nothing was left but expensive curtains moving in the cool breeze. “There’s been a bit of an accident…”
