There was a bit of Goonies magic when the San Jose Earthquakes played the New England Revolution on March 29 at home. Unfortunately, the magic that has made it impossible for fans to leave a game early, didn't happen for Quakes. Instead, the Revs were able to capitalize in stoppage time and take home a 2-1 victory to end San Jose's 21-game unbeaten streak at home.

The Quakes' first scoring attempt came in the fifth minute when Chris Wondolowski's left-footed shot from deep was an easy stop for Revs' keeper Bobby Shuttleworth. Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi's try two minutes later sailed over the crossbar, and Clarence Goodson's header in the 14th was also easily grabbed.

The Revs nearly scored in the 17th when Saer Sene turned and shot. The ball bounced off Jon Busch's hands and started dribbling away as Diego Fagundez raced for the rebound and Busch dived in front of him to snag the save.

Victor Bernardez's shot in the 18th was deflected away. A shot by Fagundez in the 24th dribbled into Busch's arms. Teal Bunbury's try in the 25th was deflected off a diving Busch. Lee Nguyen tried in the 30th, but the dribbler was a simple stop for Busch. Quick-thinking also allowed Busch to grab a tap by Daigo Kobayashi in the 33rd before it turned into a goal.

It was only a matter of time before one of the teams found the back of the net. Although each team was taking numerous shots, the Revs hadn't scored in any of the team's first three matches of the season. And, in a match played on extremely slick turf, the Revs would have to wait, as the team's first goal was an accidental gift handed to them by Bernardez.

It happened in the 35th. Busch moved deep into the penalty box to pick up the ball, as Jordan Stewart slipped and knocked it away from him. Bernardez hustled toward the goal line in an attempt to beat Sene, and as he went to clear the ball, Bernardez slipped on the pitch and scored for New England.

In very familiar territory, the Quakes attempted to find their first goal. Shea Salinas' free kick in the 39th was a near equalizer as Steven Lenhart headed it just wide. Lenhart's header in the 53rd also went wide of the post. In the 64th, Wondo had a one-on-one with Shuttleworth, but with A.J. Soares quickly approaching, he pushed the ball wide in his attempt.

Then it happened. In the 69th minute, Cordell Cato slipped but regained possession and passed the ball to Wondo. who got his footing, spun and shot, sending the ball just out of Shuttlewroth's reach, scoring the equalizer and notching his second goal of the season.

Busch blocked Bunbury's try in the 80th, and Andrew Farrell's footwork in the 85th wasn't enough, as his shot went wide.

San Jose nearly took the lead in the 91st, but Wondo's header bounced wide. But, with three additional minutes of stoppage time, there was plenty of match left and it was New England who finally capitalized in the 93rd. Nguyen dribbled the ball across the top of the penalty box, found his spot and sent a rocket that sailed past Busch's reach and gave New England the win.

Taking it to the Top: The Earthquakes hosted the new stadium's Topping Out Ceremony on March 28 where the final beam, signed by fans, players and staff, was placed atop the stadium's steel structure.

Go USA: Clarence Goodson and Chris Wondolowski were called to United States Men's National Team Duty for the April 2 (after press time) game against Mexico at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Game Commentary: Montreal Impact VS New England Revolution

Crack about the MLS all you want- I'll probably agree with you a lot of the time- and especially about the Revs, whose form has just been I don't even know this season... but I am a New Englander, and I'll always love this team a little. 

- Xavi would have some comments on the state of the grass. Brown spots? Really?

'09: some super ugly playing by both teams. Ball given away, and given away

'14: Oof. Nesta stole the ball like it wasn't even hard. Because it wasn't even hard. C'mon, boys, you can do better than that.

'15: Bengston has some speed on him. That was a nice run, too bad nothing came of it. I wanna see him make some big plays.

- Chatter from the commentators about internationals missing lots of MLS games. MLS schedule VS FIFA schedule = always a thing, always gonna be a thing. 

- Good thing this game's coming ahead of the Frankenstorm. Probably the last weekend of good weather the north's going to have. 

'21: Corner cleared after a tense moment there. That was sloppy, and Jay Heaps knows it. He looks pissed. 

'22: Feilhaber's down. Looks like his ankle? Nope, his foot. He's up. 

'23: Ugggggh, pass went by Bengston. That wasn't good. 

'27: Cardenas had a good chance, couldn't finish it. 

- I'm totally sympathizing with all the Gunners who were watching the match against QPR this morning. Hoping we have the same outcome, but, man, this is killer...

'38: Some pretty passes after the corner, but still no goal... 

'40: Players losing their footing left and right. Ugly pitch, ugly game.

- My French is not up to understanding what the announcers are saying on the loudspeakers at this stadium... Some of the Montreal players' French Canadian names are too much for the American commentators, though, so that makes me feel better.

'44: Omg, Revs, stop giving away passes!

- Know what would be fun? Jay Heaps and Pep Guardiola- body language battle. They're both so expressive when they coach. It entertains me. 

- Chris Tierney giving halftime commentary also entertains me. I so approve of this.

- Here, world, have some New England bros giving the cheer:

'46: Aaaaand it's already not good. Soares crashes down on one knee. Ouch. Glad he shook that off. 

'47: Fagundez against Nesta... the young gun against the old pro. Old pro won it. 

'49: EEEEEEEEEK! Ball rolled right in front of the goal. Shuttleworth didn't have it, but it didn't go in. Whew!

'50: Another close call. Shuttleworth saved it. Thank goodness. 

'52: This pitch is brutal. Feilhaber just slipped as he was kicking. 

- The Impact fans are throwing streamers at Shuttleworth. They're all over the area. Better streamers than bottles or something, but, c'mon, that's still lame.

'53: Blatant dive by... Di Vaio, I think that was? Should've gotten a yellow.

'55: Revs' defense did well to block a shot by Di Vaio. Dangerous few moments there.

'58: Fagundez got by Nesta, passed to Cardenas, who ended up taking a tumble. It's just not happening for my team here. 

'62: Fagundez is down, Gavin's warming up...

- I love that one of the big supporters' groups for the Revs is called The Midnight Riders. My history-loving mind appreciates it. 

'65: Di Vaio helps Soares to his feet. Classier move than the flop a bit ago.

'66: Here comes Kelyn Rowe for Cardenas. Hoping the fresh legs can make a difference. 

'71: AWFUL pass rescued by Shuttleworth. That could've been a disaster.

'72: Niiice save by Shuttleworth!!!! Soares cleared it. Good stuff.

- Commenators mentioning it's the last minutes of the season for both these teams. That's what makes the greatness, how much emotion's in it, you know?

'74: Another save. This game really is like the Arsenal-QPR game; it's all about the keeper's work 'cause no one else is doing much worth looking at. 

'79: I'll concede the foul on Di Vaio, but part of me wants to say nobody touched him just because of what he did earlier. 

'81: Di Vaio takes his kick, and omg, Shuttlworth saves it. Thaaaaank goodness.

'85: OH THANK GOODNESS THAT BALL GOT CLEARED!!! You're killin me, Revs. I'm dead.

'86: Free kick, free kick, c'moooooooon!!!!

'87: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!!!!!! Soares headed it in!!!!!!!!!

'90: Five minutes of stoppage time to go. HANG ONTO THIS LEAD, REVS!!!!!

'92: Bobby Shuttleworth, you are awesome. 

'95: And that's the game!!!! Revs win it!!!

It was ugly, it was stressful, but it's a win and the season ends on a high note.
