Boëllmann - Suite Gothique
13 pieces for Halloween, no.13: This work makes use of the Romantic organ’s dynamics, and it is a staple of French organ music. The final movement, the toccata, is one of the most popular organ works for its drama and grotesque sound. The whole suite is reminiscent of Gothic architecture and the grisly atmosphere that once might expect from Gothic literature. Again, we are thrown into a world with ghosts, ghouls, strange phenomena, the unexplainable, passion, nightfall, death, horror, the sublime, all conveyed through music. Of course the title only gives a suggestion of the Gothic, there is no full planned and detailed program, but still the work evokes a great atmosphere for Halloween
Movements:
1. Introduction - Choral
2. Menuet Gothique
3. Prière à Notre-Dame
4. Toccata

Curse you, organ teacher, for playing the Boellmann toccata at 190+ and causing me to have unrealistic expectations.
boëllmann's suite gothique (op. 25 - the prayer) is still my very favourite lyric-less song ever and nothing will ever change that
