For the fanfic asks, 1, 12, 22, 23?
1) favorite fic you wrote this year
The Delta ‘verse! Six months later (and I cannot believe it’s been that long) and I still find myself musing on it. All that melancholy tenderness and the intimacy of it and it’s so lovely and so heartbreaking. It was very satisfying to write because it hit both buttons I knew I had and ones I didn’t know I had, and it allowed me to play around with things I’ve had an interest in for a long time. It’s a fic that series doesn’t much care what anyone thinks of it, but I love it dearly to pieces.
12) favorite character to write about this year
(discounting all historical cameos)
Probably Philippe? I never really wrote him before except as a background character, but I’ve found myself playing with him a lot this year. My first fic of the year, Necessity, focused on him in the Etched with Tears/Wraiths of Wandering ‘verse, and what was supposed to be a minor role in Soft Place to Fall grew to be one of my favourite parts of it. Recently ofc I’ve explored him a good bit in the sanatorium AU and the time travel AU and if all goes according to plan he’ll be a central figure in the new western AU. But he’s definitely been the standout character of the year for me.
22) events you participated in this year
Believe it or not but I actually had to go looking to see if I *had* participated in any events. I ran both #PotOAUFics and #PotORarerPairs, but they hardly count when I didn’t actively participate. So I went digging, and it turns out I did participate in something! I wrote Haemorrhage for @timebird84’s #Farewell Challenge! Tbh I couldn’t quite remember if that had even this year or last year, but it was the spring/early summer of this year and it’s a fic that I still have a soft spot for.
If all goes to plan, I should also have a last-minute entry to @notaghost3’s Christmas one-shot contest!
23) fics you wanted to write but didn’t
The socialist seventies AU. The 1977 election (including a certain Independent Labour candidate who won a seat in Dublin Artane) is one that I’m particularly interested in because it came at the end of a terrible government, and the one that followed it is notorious for a variety of reasons, but it also showed that there was a desire to vote for openly socialist candidates in certain areas if there candidates willing to stand, and ofc it split the Labour Party yet again.
In terms of fic, I tend to imagine Philippe as a young campaigner in 1977 which somehow leads to his meeting Sorelli and becoming involved with her and at some point after that they both become involved with Christine, but I never got around to framing it properly and I do wonder if it would be better held off as something original.
(Though you bet the 1977 election is earmarked to eventually appear in all before us lie)
