Bogle Essential Red 2013...90 Points from tastings.com $9.99 #boglewinery (at Hy-Vee)
Valentine’s Day in the Vineyard
A California Valentine’s Day Can you believe today is the middle of February? The sun is shining, the temperature is hitting 77 degrees, and the top to the Audi TT Roadster goes down! Yes! This is the most excellent way to spend Valentine’s Day with your Sweetheart!
Today’s adventure began with a drive to Clarksburg. Some would think the winter vineyards don’t carry the same beauty as just before harvest, and maybe I agree to an extent; but you have to experience wineries and vineyards year round to enjoy all they have to offer.
First stop…Bogle Vineyards!
After a bit of a jaunt on the levee road we arrived at Bogle. The setting was family friendly and because I love to people watch I was in my element. After paying our entry fee we were ushered into the tasting area where there where whites and reds ready to be evaluated! Starting with the unoaked Chardonnay which was crisp and clean with notes of citrus and linear in style, followed by the partially oaked Chardonnay which had an added component of malolactic ferment which gave the wine a level of complexity and lastly an unoaked Chenin Blanc which showed a balanced mouth feel and on the nose full of fruit again linear in style crisp fruit with notes of Asian Pear.
Next, the reds! We tasted through their selection of a merlot, a Petite Syrah and two Zins, topped off with their 2013 Port. What a great setting with cheese plates and chocolates…and my goodness those chocolate covered cherries…paired amazingly!
After our sampling in their tasting room, we strolled outside to enjoy picnic tables and crowds of people enjoying the California sunshine! The ambiance led to two more special tastings from the barrels! A 2014 Zin and a 2014 Port being aged in American Barrels.
Yikes! Look at the time! We must keep moving on!
Next stop the SugarMill in Clarksburg!
Here they were celebrating their Port Wine & Chocolate Lovers’ Weekend. This has become a renowned place to gather to taste and celebrate the now eleven local Wineries in one location. Other venues offered at this location are Wedding, Private Parties and Patio Seating with Picnicking.
Time was running out so we popped into taste at Draconi’s who specializes in wines that emphasize mouth feel and texture. And then a quick jaunt to Due Vigne for a sampling of their current releases.
We will surely need to return to enjoy all the Sugar Mill has to offer…the day simply disappeared in the warmth of the incredibly sunny California styled Valentines Day!
If you just can't choose then pick up any of the @boglewinery offerings - just good solid wine for everyday - not that you should drink wine every day. Then again, not that you shouldn't. Remember we are label printers - not doctors. :-)
