@theoceanslibrarian liked for a starter.
This island was kind of hectic and scary. It was heavily populated and fast-paced. And so far, most of the people Samson had encountered were snippy and impatient.
He needed to find a pleasant place to get away from it all. The cafes were too crowded, and so were the beaches. Not that he cared much for sand to begin with.
Finally, he found a bookstore. Taking his time, he pulled open the door and stepped inside. Immediately, he took a deep breath. The place had a clean and parchment sort of smell. There were only a few people there: a person at the check-out counter, and a few people near bookshelves and leafing through books.
Maybe he’d pick up a nice book while he was here, settle against the wall, and read it. That sounded like a plan. Samson scanned the various sections, in search of action and adventure books. He really had a soft spot for those, and maybe it was because he was scared to go on such epic adventures himself.
Even though he was, more or less, stuck with two friends that were avid travelers.
He finally found the section, and he browsed the books on the shelves. A Fishman Fairytale? The title immediately called to him, and he gently took the book from the shelf. He opened the book and started reading the first page.
Who was this narrator? Whoever it was had a very sassy and personable tone. It amused him, and he found himself smiling and chuckling several times as he read through the first few pages.
Now, he had to find a place to sit so he could keep reading. Still with his nose practically in the book, Samson started to back up.
That is, until he felt himself collide with someone.
With a shout, Samson immediately jumped and spun around, realizing he’d bumped into a small, pink-haired woman. Immediately, he closed the book, winced, and raised his hands.
“Oh my gosh, I’m sorry!” he said. “I’m so sorry! Did you drop anything? Let me help you pick them up!”
He was, of course, still wincing and had no clue as to whether or now the woman had actually dropped anything.
Bookstore Blues
It was only today that it started to sink in A loved one is gone Hard to believe because it happened so quickly For a while I couldn’t move
We’ll never forget what he shared with us All the words, knowledge, and books His mind full of wonder Eager to pass on to us what he knew
He believed in us, the young ones He knew the importance of education He wanted us to unlock our potential And to succeed
I suddenly thought to myself The next time I visit a National Bookstore It will never be the same again For I’ll always remember my granduncle/Lolo Tony
my hands are covered in so many tiny paper cuts.
The amount of Star Wars product we’re getting in for the movie is INSANE.
Sweet Jesus. I have more Star Wars books than I do Harry Potter books. AND THATS SAYING SOMETHING. Cause I have Harry Potter books out the ears. SO MANY. All of the books.
But yes. So many The Last Jedi merchandise. SO MANY.
*orders some kids Star Trek books for anarchy*
There. Equality.
reading yet another book about the neoconservative movement b/c someone emptied out my lovecraft stash again
This Is Probably Dangerous & Dumb: A Life
where is that abandoned book store?
An hour or two outside of Portland, Oregon.
A guy who grew up in the area said the owner was mugged for drug money and the resulting brain damage from the attack left him unable to maintain the store— but I think that’s just as likely a bit of fiction spread by local cops to discourage kids from thinking too favorably about drug use. Whatever happened, the building is unsalvageable now (another rainy Oregon winter and visitors’ll be liable to fall right through the floor) and the books are rotting on the shelves.
