Week 2.. Let's do this
For the past 2 weeks the other interns and I have been going to a church called Paseo on Sunday mornings and today I heard a message I just had to share! We've been talking about "Missio Dei" which translates to "sending of God."
Today we went through Micah 6:8
"what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
He talked about how we need to be missional in the places we already are and it begins by listening to those around us to make them people, not projects. He explained how justice is taking something that is out of line with God and realigning it to "make all things new." And how "walking humbly with your God" is slow, hard and messy but it's worth it!! He asked a couple of questions that really had me thinking and I think they are worth processing through:
What social injustice really bothers you? and what does God want you to do about it? Who is setting the terms of our love and service? Is it God or is it you? Who is God calling me to show kindness to and how do I do that?
He also had a quote I loved and wanted to share with you: "If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people together to go gather wood. Don't assign them a task and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea." I just LOVE that quote and the comparisons we can make to how we share God with others. We need to come along side our brothers and sisters and walk through the messiness of life with them. And along the way, teach and inspire them to fall in love with the IMMENSITY of the SAVIOR!!
Yep.. let that nugget of knowledge sink in! =]
Have a great day!!!
