Do you have any injury headcanons for Keith post-Marmora?
i said i was gonna write fic, but i’m just gonna be honest with you guys and myself. it most likely won’t happen. so i hope these suffice instead!
the marmora offer to patch him up, but keith insists he can do it himself so they give him some supplies and he asks for some privacy to bandage himself
shiro doesn’t like it, but he goes along with what keith wants because he knows his head is reeling and he needs some space (shiro is reeling too. it’s all too much).
the wound in his shoulder is worse than he thought. when he peels back the black suit, it’s soaked and sticky with blood.
the shoulder is the worst off, but his ribs are tender and he has a pretty bad headache and there are some alarming bruises at various places on his body. he’s going to be very uncomfortable for a few days.
getting into his paladin armor is a super painful process.
on the way back to the castle, shiro asks him persistently if he’s okay and how his wounds are. keith keeps saying they’re fine, even though he can feel blood soaking through the bandage on his shoulder and his arm is suspiciously hard to lift and his ribs are making it a bit hard to breathe.
he does a good job of hiding it, though, by the time they get back to the castle, shiro has let it go and no one seems to suspect a thing.
he hopes shiro doesn’t notice that he isn’t using his right arm very much.
once he’s alone in his room and changing out of his armor, he allows the pain to show. he groans loudly when he has to extend his arm to get his bodysuit off.
he’s bled through his bandage. no surprise there, but now he’ll have to go to the medbay to get a new one. hopefully he can manage without having anyone find out.
for the moment, he covers up with his jacket and sneaks down to the infirmary while everyone’s getting ready for dinner. it won’t take long.
he’s cleaned off the blood and is about to begin the process of wrapping fresh gauze around the (frankly pretty horrific) wound when he hears, “keith?”
lance is in the entrance of the medbay.
keith freezes in the wrapping, wound in plain sight for the viewing.
when lance’s eyes land on it, he visibly winces. “dude, that’s disgusting. did that happen at the headquarters?”
keith growls in frustration, but the jig is up. “uh, yeah. it’s fine, though.”
lance raises an eyebrow. “that is not fine. you may have fooled shiro, but you ain’t foolin’ me.”
i could go on and on, but lance ends up helping him clean the wound (”you mean you didn’t even disinfect it?”) and bandage it again. under the promise that he not tell the rest of the team about it, of course.
after a bit of prodding and nagging, lance gets keith to admit that his head and ribs also hurt, so he helps with those too. it doesn’t seem like a concussion or fractures, but lance is uneasy and thinks keith should go in a pod anyway.
that idea is, unsurprisingly, shut down pretty quickly.
lance keeps his word and doesn’t tell the rest of the team, but he watches keith uncomfortably close for a while and sometimes corners him privately to make sure he’s still taking care of it and that it’s healing okay.
