Are you safe? What happened in DC? There’s been a media blackout for over 5 hours, no one has heard anything from anyone in the city

I’m totally safe! Based on what I was seeing on Twitter after I left the epicenter of everything, I guess some protesters might have rushed the police? But I feel like they wouldn’t have done that unprompted. I saw the protesters all day and they were completely peaceful. And there was a photo of a man who jumped on a police car and cracked the glass, no one seemed to be hurt from it. So I’m thinking the police used these things as an excuse to retaliate. I heard about five or six flash bangs and talked to some of the protesters that left the area that the police were shooting (I think rubber bullets but not sure). The police shut down a ton of streets and rerouted all the buses. Everyone I talked to when I was downtown was extremely friendly and concerned about everyone’s safety. 

As I was leaving the mall, an armored vehicle rolled up for no reason, everyone was still being extremely peaceful. I left downtown around 7pm so I’m not sure what might have happened after I left. I just checked Twitter again and there was some fires set by the White House (not the Monument like some tweets were saying) and fireworks were being set off in the crowd. Mayor Bowser implemented a curfew last and the DC National Guard was called in. They’re saying half of the protesters were arrested, I really hope everyone is okay
