Diamond in the garden (chapter 6)
Fíli appraised the hobbit for a second. He had put on some weight since the last time Fíli had seen him which was probably normal. And he seemed as though he had not aged over much. Beyond that there was not much Fíli could determine about the hobbit and he dared not ask. Is he happy with his wife? Is this the life he would have wanted before he left on the quest?
There was one other thing that was clear to Fíli, even if Bilbo had gotten married he still cared for Thorin. So he gave the best answer he could given the circumstances, “You know Bilbo, we are not the only members of the company who wanted to see you and wondered after you.” Bilbo’s eyes went a little at the implication but he shook his head. “I’m glad to see you Fíli and to hear about everyone.” Or almost everyone.
