some random facts about Boulder Adaar:
Neither he nor his mother knows for sure who his father was
His mother’s name is Adaar. She was one of the aqun-athlok that Bull describes, a woman fighter who lived as a man, until she rebelled against the Qun and became Tal-Vashoth.
As a result Adaar doesn’t entirely identify as male or female - under the Qun, Adaar was a man because she was a warrior. After, as Tal-Vashoth, the idea of being a woman who fights was still foreign, but not entirely incomprehensible. Sometimes she will refer to herself as a he, sometimes as a she.
Thus, Boulder has always had a fluid idea of gender. He himself doesn’t identify entirely as a man or a woman, though he uses he/him/his pronouns.
Boulder has one sibling, a (probable) half-sister named Smash. She’s a giant warrior lady with silver hair and golden eyes, taller than Boulder is and pretty much able to toss him over her shoulder with ease. Her weapon of choice is a giant maul. She’s four years older than he is.
Both Adaar’s children were known as ‘Little Adaar’ until they chose their own names. Smash’s name came early; she’s always liked crushing things. Boulder likes the irony of his name - it caters to people’s expectations of him as this great, unmovable creature, when really he’s an extremely nimble rogue.
Boulder (unlike my other Adaar, Damla), speaks Qunlat fluently.
Boulder is a romantic. He doesn’t have sex casually, unlike many of the Vashoth in his merc group, and he’s mostly monogamous. He would probably consider himself pansexual, if he were the sort to put a label on his sexuality.
His first love was a lady dwarf named Mena, daughter of a powerful kalnas of the Dwarven Merchants’ Guild, and intermediary between the Guild and her family’s Carta contacts. They made plans for Mena to leave the Guild and join Boulder’s mercenary band, the Valo-Kas, but she was killed in a Carta deal gone bad before that could happen.
Bouder is about 36 (I thiiink) at the start of Inquisition
