Saturday mood
Dear HEB employee, I am not here, on a 6:30 pm on a Sunday evening, to fuck up your day. You see, I too have worked at a grocery store. I have stood in place for long hours, worked Thanksgiving rush, and had an 80 year old woman scream at me over a pack of Paul Malls (which I couldn't find because she pronounced it Pell Mell). I know you can't tell the shitty jobs I've worked by looking at me, so best not to assume. No, I'm here because I've been working all afternoon, I need a few things, and my cat barfed on my new bed. So I'm having a rough day, too. This means that when I ask for quarters in change, I'm not trying to piss you off. You don't need to huff because you slammed the register drawer shut already, while I was asking, or roll your eyes while asking how many, or mutter under your breath sulkily when you get them. See you can say one of these things to make it okay: "How many?" (W/O the eye roll) "We're not allowed to give out the whole roll during x hours." "I only have the one roll left... Would $x be okay?" And then you don't have to call a manager when I leave to get more change, and I can do laundry tonight without being irritated. Or you could be rude. And I'll take my quarters and walk home to feed my kitties and chill, while you check out customers who are going to take THEIR day out on YOU.
