I had coffee with Bowie!
I finally got to meet him! Astral projection for the win!!!! I had gone to a book shop and was looking at some collective photobooks of David through the years. As I was looking through him I heard a voice from right behind me. “He was quite the interesting fellow wasn’t he?” said the all too familiar voice.
Guys my heart skipped a beat. As I turned, I saw him leaning against the bookshelf with his hands in his pockets, smiling down at me. He was in his middle years, bright, and curious.
Shyly I asked him if he would sign the two books I had in my hands. He nodded quietly and grabbed the purple glitter pen I had in my shirt pocket, opened to the back of the book and signed his name with a small note. ‘You’ve waited forever, now that wasn’t long, was it?’ it said.
After that, he invited me to grab a cup of coffee with him, as I had always dreamed of. The one thing I wanted to do was sit down and have a cup of coffee with him, and have a small chat.
We talked about Ziggy Stardust and how important the persona was to push his career further, but also about the implications and mental hardships he dealt with during this phase.
“I don’t regret bringing Ziggy forward, I regret letting Ziggy take over.” was something he told me during this conversation, as I knew all too well what it was like to have a persona that tends to take over. It was definitely something we connected with.
I don’t recall the name of the bistro we were at, but he ordered a cup of black coffee with a hint of creamer and just sat, watching me drink my coffee and look through the books. Just then he told me that he had to go, but he would be around whether that be popping up on social media, a song or two on the radio randomly, or dreaming/astral projection.
This definitely was a dream come true!
