This is Joy, she trusted me to cut 13 inches off of her long box black hair. Next step will be breaking up the color by balayaging in several brown tones. I do love me some corrective color!

I did a post yesterday about how box dye can completely mess up the process of hair coloring. The popular metallic and gray hair trend is expensive to achieve, but trust me if you go the cheap route you will end up paying twice more! Box color will take you three steps backward rather than forward. Say you box dye it black and decide you want to be a medium blonde. It could take multiple sessions of lifting to achieve any lightness and that isn’t a guarantee either. No matter what, box dye is unpredictable and a challenge to get out. With these trending metallic tones, vivid and pastels the hair must be white just like a canvas. Any warmth in the hair is going to mess with desired outcome. The most common failures from box color is clients end up turning their hair bright orange or muddy green. Therefore, it is important to find someone that knows what they are doing in order to lift and cancel out unnecessary tones!
Save yourself the time and money and invest in your hair. It is a lot more complicated than you might think!
Anyone know a good at home hair dye? My hair has faded so much and I don’t think I can afford to go to a salon for another month. I just want a dark brown and I’ve always been kinda scared about box color, so I don’t know what’s good or not for hair!

If you want to go from dark brown to a lightest light blonde get thee to a hair salon. Don’t try this at home. Here are the biggest mistakes women make when doing their color themselves.

Cheaper To Color Your Hair At Home :) Pro's And Con's!
As a hairstylist for over 30 years I can honestly say I’ve only strayed down the color isle at the grocery store to investigate “Home hair color” once or twice in my lifetime. It scares and confuses me, The names sound great, “French roast, infusion red, glazed caramel, mocha, dirty blonde and sun kissed tea” More enhancing words on the color boxes are confident words like “Intense, Power,…

I'm scared to try box color considering i've always always always always had my hair professional done and my hair now is currently a permanent dark brown but slowly fading and I want to dye my hair a dark purple/plum/eggplant type but box color only because I've heard it actually does work and last a while, plus I'm trying to save on $$ and this seems like the best way, I'm just nervous it isn't going to come out because my hair is so dark currently, and from previous times I've professionally dyed it.
Does anyone know if this will work on my hair?
