What Does Decolonization and Indigenization Look Like in the Classroom? Dr. Shauneen Pete (Little Pine First Nation), May 6, 2020.
From the webinar series organized by Dr. Angela Nardozi.
I’ve hopefully cued it up to where Dr. Pete begins sharing her insights with working with college students who primarily are white and middle-class and for whom this is the first time they’ve ever been taught by an indigenous teacher. Every class she starts with the same question, and has the students write for 10 minutes: “How did you learn about indigenous people in your home, school or community?”
She also talks about settler decolonization and the practice of becoming a “reverse settler.”
