Reason #1 why I'm a cool teacher

Brain James is the author of the Pirate School series. This is a great early chapter book for young kids. I began reading the series to my first grade class last fall, I wasn’t that keen on the chapter books the other teachers were reading. I wanted something really fun.

Ok, I get that doesn’t seem very cool. The cool part was when the author Brain James sykped with us. YES! That’s cool!! I can’t begin to explain the excitement from the kids and me. :)

We had a pirate dress up day in my class (including me) and just after PE Brain James joined us from Catskill Mountains, New York to our class in Texas.

Reason #1 why I’m cool - because my kids read. All 21 of them love reading. Find something they like and do whatever you can to bring it to life. Sometimes when you take a chance and ask, someone might just say yes.

And you must read Life is but a Dream by Brain - it’s a beautiful story about a young girl losing her touch to reality and after she is sent to a Wellness Center for help she meets a boy that makes her question whether she is crazy or the world around her is crazy. A story about Sabrina and being diagnosed with schizophrenia. This is unlike any book about schizophrenia, this is Sabrina’s story and it is just beautiful.
