Detecting And Diagnosing Breast Cancer Early To Prevent It.
Women over 50 receive the majority of breast cancer diagnoses. Early detection of breast cancer is best achieved with a mammography every two years.
Breast self-examination
Breast self-examination is one of the most important things you can do to ensure that you don't miss any breast changes. If you have been diagnosed with breast cancer, or if you have a family history of breast cancer, it is important to examine your breasts monthly, or even more often if you notice any changes.
Breast self-examination is also recommended for women who want to be sure their breasts are healthy. The American Cancer Society recommends that women over the age of 40 examine their breasts once a month.

Happy #pinkwednesday We are at the end of October's #breastcancerawareness month, and I wanted to remind you all that #breastselfexamination is so important. • • I want to share with you a very personal story about when I discovered a small lump on my left breast in 2016, performing my monthly self-examination. I was concerned, and a little scared about the unknown. What I did know was that knowing whether it was benign or malignant is better than not knowing. At least, I could have a plan of attack. Thank goodness for the mammogram and ultrasound, it turned out to be a very common benign fibroadenoma. It can present early or late in life and sometimes it will dissolve on its own. I had some concerns as there are at least 3 of my cousins that were diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as a niece that is also diagnosed with fibroadenoma. So, even if there isn't a direct genetic history, there is a connection. I wanted to share this in the hopes to inspire someone to take that scary step to have a mammogram screening if you've discovered a lump or if you're in the over 40 age bracket, and definitely if there is a genetic predisposition. Breast cancer that develops in pre menopausal women tend to be aggressive and fast growing. Women under 40 years of age should learn how to perform monthly breast self examination, one week after their menstrual cycle. I have a mammogram and ultrasound every year, just to make sure. • • #cherriopolis #blogger #californiabloggers #discoverunder5k #discoverunder10k #fallglamr #slayflatlay #flatlaystyle #mammogramsaveslives https://www.instagram.com/p/CG5-IxNpRPy/?igshid=78zanwykwcta
There currently is no 100% effective method for detecting breast cancer. Many cancers are too small or soft to be felt, but can be seen on a mammogram. Some types of cancers can be felt more easily than they can be seen on the mammogram. In fact, 10-15% of breast cancers cannot be seen on the mammogram. Therefore, your best protection against breast cancer is using every detection method available – breast self-examination and mammography.
