Okay. I was warned that the climax to The Burning White involved

a literal "god sweeps in to help" tier Deus ex Machina, which with a lot of the religious setup would probably have felt less jarring if there weren't so many entire sermons to help characters resolve their arcs--half of which seem to be delivered by god himself.

But no one warned me that the story's deus straight up jokes by name about it being a cheat for him to solve problems by flying in on a machina.

Posting for the first time in a year. It’s not my fault. I’ve been reading a lot, but right after my last post I read Brent Weeks. I liked the Night Angel trilogy just fine. I liked Lightbringer books for the first three, but books 4 and 5 just kind of lost their way imo. The way it ended was just so poorly conceived (and not even the part you’re thinking). And then I read Night Angel Nemesis. So I stopped writing reviews because I mostly like to focus on the positive things and I just couldn’t think of what to write.

Anywho, here’s my Realm of the Elderlings tattoo. A book series I very much enjoy. The tattoo says “Time to change, Changer”

The juxtaposition of knowledge between admission of someone's attractiveness in contrast to what they actually think of said person. Puts that spark of joy in my heart that greatly concerns me. I shouldn't enjoy someone being this petty in their own head.

It is kind of funny that at the moment I am reading two different series both with a main character named "Kip." The first is Brent Weeks's Lightbringer series and the second is Victoria Goddards's Lays of the Hearth-Fire series. I had actually forgotten the main character (or one of the main characters) in Lightbringer was named Kip, because I had to wait a couple weeks for book 2 to be available from the library, and in the meantime I picked up The Hands of the Emperor. Then The Blinding Knife became available about a day or two after finishing The Hands of the Emperor and I was really startled when it started talking about Kip.
