Cannot get Jonathan Groff as Allan in the Barbie movie out of my mind. (We could have had it all!) Which got me thinking about a Mindhunter Barbie AU...
Allan was first released in 1964. Which means he would have been around in the late 70s. 👀
What if he traveled to the Real World to find the girl playing with him, because he hasn't been feeling like himself lately. (Inability to speak. Thoughts about death. That sort of thing.)
Only he discovers that it's a boy who's playing with him. On a weekly basis, during his appointment with a child psychologist. This boy, whose name is Brian, only ever picks Allan from the box of toys.
While trying to befriend and support Brian AND figure out how to heal the rift between Barbieland and the Real World, Allan also gets to know the boy's father; a depressed, divorced FBI agent named Bill. Who instantly believes Allan's story, since the FBI knows about the existence of Barbieland.
Bill offers to pay for new clothes for Allan (his shorts attract all sorts of unwanted attention) and in turn Allan helps Bill pick out furniture for his new bachelor pad (no leather couch!). They get into all kinds of fun shenanigans and slowly fall in love along the way.
In-touch-with-his-feelings Allan is a good influence on both Brian and Bill. His easy acceptence of Brian also inspires Bill to actually connect with his son. They figure out that Brian chose the Allan doll week after week because he was trying to replace his (emotionally and physically) absent father.
Of course Allan ends up living in the Real World with Bill (and Brian on alternate weekends). So now Brian has two fathers and a mom, who all take very good care of him and love him very much! 💖 The end 💖
