In training, Thistle mistook the broad jump as some kind of foot target body awareness exercise. She was very proud of herself as she somehow slid each foot between the jumps without disturbing them. Impressive!
I do not have a broad jump but I do have lots of white pipes I can fashion into roughly the same shape and height, I hope.
I put the usual jump I do own over the top of it, to be able to capture the jumping action. Then slowly removed various parts of it until it was flat n broad. Possibly longer than trial jump. Not sure.
Each gif is from one attempt, in the order they were done. Hopefully she will be able to generalise this to when we next use an actual trial broad jump.
I figured out that a lady from agility lives in my neighborhood and had a broad jump I could borrow! So We’ve started our training for the Open broad jump exercise.
Overall we are going to try and get it into Aayla’s muscle memory to jump long over this. The difficulty is going to be to prevent her cutting the corner. Which is going to be hard. So a feed plate out straight ahead for her, then getting her front and finish in place.
Not even really sure what my criteria is going to be after I remove the feed plate. I’ll have to get a little creative. I’ve also heard of using cones or a pole for her to go around. We will see in time what works best.
