Flash Fiction: T'au Empire vs Tyranids
Hello! This piece is set during the invasion of the T'au Empire by Hive Fleet Gorgon around 899.M41. I find the contrast of these two species interesting: both are hierarchical and aggressive, but the T'au embody a futuristic optimism while the Tyranids are biological predators driven by an unthinking imperative to consume. (And, yeah, a Riptide battlesuit flanked by Broadsides against a Hive Tyrant is just badass.)
It was over twenty feet tall, akin in size to a Hammerhead gunship, the hover-tanks of the T’au military. Yet while a Hammerhead epitomized T’au science and innovation, the creature was organic, a commixture of biology’s most vicious and lethal inventions. Its body was covered in a chitinous carapace over an insectoid exoskeleton, its tubular head primarily made up of rows of fangs. Around it roamed swarms of lesser monsters, smaller in scale but just as gruesome and deadly. They skittered around the talons of their colossal master, armed with razor-sharp claws of their own. Shas’O Ka’eldi had seen those scything blades tear through her T’au kindred, military and civilian alike.
Some People: *Assemble, prime, and paint a whole new army in, like, two weeks*
Me: I've been working on this one broadside suit for almost a month, and I'm almost done with its legs! Just the legs.
First time trying to work with so much green. Behold: Dalyth Sept Broadsides, ready to go with all my Kroot. With fully magnetized secondary systems even!
And of course we got a full squad of missile drones to go with it. Strongest weapon you can currently put on a drone - of course I plan to field all of them that I can get my hands on!
These little guys can pack a punch, that's for sure.
Still a bit of work that needs to be done, minor mistake fixing, but for the most part they are ready for the table :)
After months of building and painting GSC I can say: we are back on with the Greater Good, and of course that means BIG. ASS. GUNS.
This time I even magnetize the secondary systems - because I got no clue on how to kit them until the Codex comes out. Guess I'll have about 2-3 weeks for those 3 Broadsides before the Kroot will demand all of my time.
I really hope whatever detachment the Kroot get it works well with Broadsides as it did in 9th (where Broads always had cover which is fun on a 2+ armor save).
