Omg hi!!! 🥹 Ahhhh, that makes me so happy! I’ve started working on chapter 7 a while ago and ngl, this message brought back even more motivation to continue working on it! I’ve changed some things around from my original plan so I’m having some trouble figuring out how to get to my end goal from here, but I think I’m getting there! 🙂↕️

Joel takes a couple more breaths, his face still distorted into a mask of disgust and fury. It feels like a monumental feat, but he manages to pry his fingers loose from the bastard eventually.
When he steps away, the other guy doesn't move from where Joel shoved him into the wall, just rightens himself slightly. Joel's delighted to see the man's hand come away soiled with blood after he touches it to the back of his head. It puts a grim smile on Joel's face.
He hasn't had much cause for blood-thirst as of late. Not since he rescued Ellie from the Fireflies. He became calmer after that, soothed by the safety Jackson had to offer and all that came with it. It changed him for the better, brought out more of the Joel he had been before the world had gone to shit and Sarah had been ripped from him. Her jarring loss had twisted something inside of him that only Ellie had managed to untangle. She'd made him softer in many ways, rounded out his hard and jagged edges where twenty years of brutal survival had chipped away at him.
But now that bloodlust has been rekindled inside of him, and the flames are licking up his insides, asking to be unleashed. Joel sees fire, and he wants to burn this man to the fucking ground until nothing but ashes are left of him.
Honestly!!!!! The 2nd time rereading I got mad at Maria for being "fair" but bro, if it were up to me that fucker would be GONE
Wonder if his pregnant wife knew? 🤔 bc if she didn't that would be a fuckjng hell of a way to find out, this guy built like a brick shithouse essentially kicking in the door and yelling that your husband touches kids jeeesus
💀 Maria certainly isn’t collecting fans with her insistence on fair justice, but let’s be real for a moment. Isn’t Jackson what it is BECAUSE it relies on rules like that? To give everyone a fair chance and ruling? I mean, the council’s decision still isn’t in. Just because he gets a hearing doesn’t mean he gets to live… 👀 Ngl tho, I’m with you and everyone else. If it was up to Joel that guy would’ve bit the grass quicker than he could’ve begged for his life.

So what I’m thinking is that this is something like a Negan, TWD S10 situation. His wife knows about his past and has chosen to be with him willingly. Why, you may ask? Now. THAT is something that future chapters will reveal 👀 But Christ, I imagine she’d go straight into labor from the shock of finding that out and not having known before. 💀

It was a heavy one not gonna lie! But holy FUCK hell hath no fury like a woman scorned (along with big bad papa bear)
(I keep thinking: Well, you’ve done it, went and wrote the darkest thing you’ve ever written. And then the next chapter of Broken comes along and I’m surprised all over again how dark I can go. Yeesh!)
But DON'T YOU KNOW IT! 👏🏼 So far we've only seen how the past has broken her, so I wanted to make sure with this chapter to show that she fought tooth and nail to protect her babygirl. And we're gonna get to see more of it too, especially now with the prospect of her getting her daughter back. Mama bear is coming for her cub!!!
(I honestly can’t wait to write more of protective!Joel. I’m thinking Joel when he, uh… ‘went to town’ on those men to find out where Ellie was 👀)

🥲 I feel like I should apologize and say thank you at the same time 🫠 I get you though, I do. I actually had to take breaks from writing during the flashback scene. Felt absolutely vile afterwards.
Thank you though, I do put a good portion of love into it, despite the darkness of it all. And I am dead set on a happy ending. I don’t care if that’s a spoiler, I feel like that needs to be said for a story this dark.

I feel almost ashamed to say this, but… you and me are wondering about the same thing 🤐 I went a bit off script for the last two chapters and now have to re-write a lot of what I initially had planned for chapter 7 and my brain somehow considers that a very daunting task. So just as soon as I can find a way to fill the gaps, I’ll get to writing!
Which also means, yes, I haven’t even started chapter 7 yet 🙃 With this fic, I feel like I can’t even touch a chapter before I know in detail what it’s going to contain. Gaaah.
So sorry for the delay, I promise I’m itching to continue it just as much as you do!
