Artist’s Rare Haven
David Craig Ellis is living the dream with oil and acrylic paint. The dream isn't over though, as it continues to flourish with a workaholics drive. The multi-talented artist has done it all from music, modeling, acting, and painting. He designs studios that win Grammy's, t-shirts that sell, billboards that pop and has solo shows that sell out. Ellis' work and presence leave a stamp on Dumbo as his studio has become a must see on a popular walking tour of Brooklyn. He is currently promoting his book and continues his morning doodles in his studio.
His book, “Doing Lines with David Craig Ellis”, features illustrations and doodles done on various materials such as paper plates, receipts, paper bags, etc. His paintings are outstanding at first glance. His craftsmanship is a blend of street, pop, rock and roll and culture jamming art all in one. The cartoon characters that star in some of the paintings are invented by " just going with the flow," says Ellis "and at the same time the paintings carry layers of ideas from deep in my subconscious." Ellis is currently outlining an idea for a gallery installation with a coffee shop called Starfuckers. Starfuckers will be a functional coffee venue to indulge in quality art and a cup of joe.
If you want to pay a visit to the studio prepare to travel through a maze. You will bypass rooms of strumming guitars before you enter the gallery of remarkable art. Contact the artist for a tour at [email protected].
