‘ their bodies are made very poorly . they’re mostly goo and juice . you just take the juice out and then they’re dead . ’ // Brainy??? science friends talking human biology ( @brxinixc5 )
Mulling over the alien’s words, Bruce munched thoughtfully on the soft pretzel he’d purchased from the unassuming Middle-Eastern man who ran the cart out on 4th. Broken down like that, yeah, humanoid organisms, typically originating from Earth, were literally just goo and juice. “If you take it even further, we’re one of the few species that can be broken down clear to our cell structures.” He swallowed another bite, pointing at a nearby pigeon on the ground, searching for scraps on the sidewalk, “Our macromolecules aren’t able to re-designate themselves, like fish or reptiles. Our proteins are our proteins, and our enzymes cannot adopt new ways to break down other sorts of metabolic substances. Fish that live deep in the ocean learn to live off of literal specs of organisms, but humans have to produce and consume continuous amounts of our needed substances or we die.”
Shrugging, Bruce offered a piece of his pretzel to Brainiac 5. The Avenger didn’t often reach out to other organizations, but the Legion was filled with plenty of resources that Bruce himself couldn’t get his hands on. It helped that there were other eager minds who wanted to learn and deduce just as readily as he did.
A part of him squirmed uncomfortably at the thought of trying to explain those things aloud to someone who didn’t speak their form of ‘English.’ Flashbacks of high school and how little people understood him made him want to sigh in relief that those days were over.
Now all he had to worry about was an unruly gamma-monster living in his belly and mind. He wondered if he put that thought into the Avengers chat, if anyone would laugh. Maybe he could tack on a quick ‘What a glow-up’ at the end.
“Is it insensitive to ask about how to make your species inoperable? That’s probably insensitive.”
