“Stop touching my shit, just- dammit,” She snapped, yanking the papers from the girl who’d supposedly been trying to help her (somewhat against her will, but Charles had sent her help and she hadn’t wanted to spit in the face of his gift) trying to stay calm, but when the girl reached for another stack and accidentally knocked those over, she snapped.
“Get out!” She threw her own stack at the girl, shooing her out with her hands. “Go go go!” she shrieked, until the girl had been chased from the room and Clare could slam the door behind her.
She wasn’t even mad at the girl, or Pike for sending someone useless to her. She was mad at herself. Jasper sat in prison and she sat here with information that could get him out and yet she did nothing. Was her promise to him to protect a gaggle of kids she didn’t really care about really more important than protecting her cousin? She paced around the little room, not bothering to clean up the chaotic papers scattered across the floor that normally would drive her insane.
