Beginning stages to garment construction
Week 2
Our thought processes and initial designs. Using moulding drafting paper to manipulate silhouettes onto the mannequins figure, creating exaggerated and distinctive forms to match our intial trend ideas.
The first 2 weeks in my opinion focused on our brands initial ideas and developing them until we were satisfied as a team with our first outcomes. Working alongside Dorothy and Andreea has defiantly improved my teamwork and communication skills through the first beginning weeks as we were spilt by pathways, enabling frequent and fluid communication across numberous platforms.
Having the foundations of our trend celidified through a series of market reaserch and analytical statistics from our quetionare. Andreea and Dorothy began intensley sketching ideas for our garment, creating durable and desirable outcomes fitting for our prodicted and potential target market. Both fashion design and textiles students creatively infused their innovative jacket illustrations to create a pleated peplum like shilloute that mirrored our puffed form trend. Once collaborating their sketches both Dorothy and Andreea began placing drafting paper onto the mannequins figure, manipulating the structure of the drafting paper to construct their chosen silhouette design.
Personally I enjoyed how this outcome appeared once finalised and complete. One aspected I admired about this jackets structure was the exaggerated collar, I considered this detail both visually and aesthetically appealing and showcased the jacket as an abstract and unique design. Aspiring to create both unique and robust elements to our garment, I anticipated this design to fit our initial plan for creation and development of our brands image and products surrounding it. Personally I would have made this jacket even more exaggerated across the body, this could have been showcased by more pleating or material to manipulate a puffed formed structure. Overall I considered this design something that as a brand group we could reassemble and reconstruct to create our final outcome, taking certain elements and components for our final product.
Below showcases what our final outcome appeared like modeled on the mannequin. Using drafting paper both Andreea and Dorothy manipulated jacket structures delicately, creating aesthetically and visually satisfying pleaded elements towards a garment.
Gathering a greater understanding of our brands vision and purpose, I wanted to stick to keep our brands visuals as professional and high end as possible to mirror and match the potential target market. Suggesting we have a strict colour theme Dorothy and I went fabric shopping to purchase a waterproof nylon material that will be both perfornacing enhancing and durable however still fashionable and desirable. With this high end professionalism in mind we wanted to stick to a grey and earthly toned colour pallet, infusing rock, mountain and stone like textures into our brands marketing, PR, promotional strategies, social media, product and place.
Unfortunately Dorothy and I were unsuccessful in finding the correct material in both stores we visited, however managed to find some wadding to fill our jacket with to manipulate the puffed form structure and robust and abstract silhouette.
Below showcases a fashion illustration designed by Andreea in the second week of the model. This is a design that we aspire as a team to bring forward for our final jacket outcome. Personally I found this illustration most visually satisfy as I enjoyed both the uniqueness to the design mirroring the puffed padding and puffed forms trend.
