Bubur Candil (Sweet and Savory Glutinous Rice Flour/Sweet Potato Ball Porridge)
A little throwback. I really loved Bubur Candil, especially the one made with sweet potato (ubi). Fun fact: ubi was even my nickname when I was a little kid. Lol.
Anyway, alhamdulillah, on the 7th day of Ramadhan, my mom and I got to make it and share it with some of our neighbors. What made it special this time was that the candil came in four colors: yellow, orange, green, and purple. All of them were naturally colored from different types of sweet potatoes we received from relatives. The green one, in particular, was made with green tea powder. To make it even more unique, some of the candil were filled with cheese.
True to its name, the flavors were a beautiful mix: sweetness from the ubi and palm sugar, and savoriness from the coconut milk. Yummy~ so nostalgic. In Japanese, they’d say natsukashii na~ and it really feels that way.
Alhamdulillah, may whatever we consume be a source of energy for doing good deeds. Aamiin Allahumma aamiin. Allahumma baarik lana 🤲🏻
