It forms the unincorporated area of #LakeStarnberg in the district of #Starnberg. The lake is owned by the Free State of Bavaria, which is managed by the Bavarian Administration of Palaces, Gardens and Lakes. . The lake also became known beyond Bavaria due to the unexplained death of #King #Ludwig II in 1886.
