If Bucky’s with Curt, he’s with him. No biting back another guy’s name, no faraway look in his eyes. It’d probably have made the whole thing easier if there had been.
Because when Bucky’s boy rolls in, Curt takes one look at him and whistles low.
“I was lowballin’ it on ‘twice as pretty,’ huh,” he mutters to Bucky, quiet enough no one else can hear. He scowls, played-up, to counter the stupid grin on Bucky’s face. “And you just let me. Some friend you are.”
(In which Curt catches feelings twice.)

It’s not all impulse, but it’s enough to make up his mind then and there. Curt’s alive. The Buckies are alive. There’s no point in wasting it bein’ careful, being scared.
“Hold onto somethin’,” Bucky tacks on, and floors it.
for the wip meme, could you share something from "under" or "spoiled"?🖤🖤
my two gale-has-psychosexual-issues-to-hash-out oneshots! i can ramble more about the actual stuff i'm trying to dig into with both/either of these if you would like more than snippets, but tl;dr spoiled began life as bucky getting—you guessed it—spoiled by curt and gale, because he deserves it and truly there is not enough of it, but it wants to be gale POV and i have some v. specific thoughts on gale's relationship with harder kink so he is getting his psychosexual issues all over what is supposed to be A FIC FOR BUCKY TO GET DOUBLESTUFFED, C'MON GALE, LIKE AN OREO:
Bucky melts, head dropping back on Curt’s shoulder, mouth dropped open on a groan that sounds like relief. “Please,” he says, or starts to, before Curt reaches forward and slides two fingers past Bucky’s teeth, garbling the back end of the word.
“Shush,” Curt murmurs, and Gale'd bristle on Bucky's behalf if it wasn't so fond and if Bucky didn't start sucking, moaning around Curt’s fingers, and God, Gale’s out of his depth.
He’s not sure he can do this, treat John like this, like he’s not a person. Can't even kiss him with Curt’s fingers in the way, but he likes it, judging by the sounds he's making.
he and curt are gonna knock heads in this one because gale has Some Ideas And Preconceptions that get externalized as kink-shaming and i'm having more fun than i probably should be shaking those up. violently.
then under is kind of a dctctc b-side; it's set after they all get together too but it's just curt and gale figuring out the D/s dynamic between themselves on the heels of gale getting his ideas of Manhood and Masculinity shaken up after seeing how much bucky likes getting fucked 😊 they're much less combative in under, and this is DEFINITELY part of cheekiverse so i think that means spoiled is Not, because it's not the same relationship for sure.
“Shoulda known you’d wanna pick it apart, big brain like you,” Curt says through a grin. If he means it as a crack like fellas tend to, it doesn't feel like it—it’s just affectionate, fond the same way Gale’s seen him get with John. So Gale relaxes a bit, flattens the end of his toothpick between his molars and cocks a brow, waiting. Curt sits back in his chair, gets a contemplative look on his face. “S’kinda hard to describe. Some guys' heads’ll get kinda fuzzy between the sheets sometimes.”
“And Bucky’s one of them?” Gale says, when Curt doesn't say anything else.
He gives Gale a different look then, a little out of place on his face for how serious it is. It’s not a look Gale’s ever seen on Curt outside the cockpit, and even then, never pointed at him. “Talk to Bucky if you want his specifics, this ain't a stitch ‘n bitch.”
a lot of what's in both of these especially wrt gale having trouble squaring "masculine ideal" with "bottoms" comes from some chats with @angelfruittree so credit there :P and this was a lot of jawing and not very long snippets but i swear i am TRYING to get a grip on gale in a way that i like it is just taking FOREVER because he's convinced he's right and he's NOT
my take on gale mota, if this helps: so obvs he's generally holds back and is very careful socially, tending towards watching rather than participating. i also think he's very reactive, inasmuch as he gives people what "fits" their personality. egan's an annoying endearing brat so he gets the longsuffering treatment. curt's longsuffering, so he gets gale's version of a brat. neither is a /lie/, persay, but both are an obfuscation of the whole picture. he deliberately casually makes himself 1/
...hard to know, which is also shown in his general stoic snarky shtick. again, it's not a lie, it's just not /everything/. exactly what part of himself he's trying to hide is up to interpretation (big gay boner for his buddies, anyone?) but i personally think he's trying very hard to hide just how fucking mean he can be. ironically i think this is exactly why bucky is drawn to him (because maybe he'll smack him around a little) who said that 2/2
yessssssss all of this is so good and i agree with nearly all of it: gale is definitely very cautious, very withholding, and very reactive, and i also definitely see a deep capacity for viciousness and anger and meanness as one of the vices he's decided Cannot Under Any Circumstances Be Expressed, Lest He Be Too Like His Father. i think my only major difference in read is i can't see gale bratting, at least not early on; not only does bucky have the brat market CORNERED, but i think gale wants to be good. he doesn't want to have those vices, he doesn't want to lash out when he's angry, he doesn't want to be a dog off the leash. what he needs is a firm hand at the end of the leash, who'll tell him when he's being a good boy.
i think he also wants that hand to hold him back from the anger and the meanness, but this is where i think curt becomes an interesting choice for being that firm hand (vs, say, bucky, who wants to drag gale so far off-leash that they both forget what the concept of leashes are, and i'm losing control of this dog metaphor but you get what I'm saying). because i think curt is happy to put gale where he belongs when it's necessary—it takes barely a touch to his chest and, what, fifteen words to make gale back down in the RAF scene, when gale FORCED bucky back down into his seat to keep him from taking the hit? seriously, curt doms that boy with so light a touch i don't think gale even knows it's THERE—but i also think that curt sees that vicious streak in gale and likes it. it just needs pointing in the right direction. so i think it'd be good for gale in that he can bring curt as many apples as he can get his hands on and get told he's a good boy for it, and curt valuing that protective streak gale seems to lump down into Anger, Which Is Always Bad means gale would get more space to have those feelings in productive ways. i.e. circling the fight like a guard dog to keep the RAF guys from taking any potshots, and reeling curt into safety the second he's in range. and also the two of them brat-taming the fuck out of bucky, with curt telling gale exactly what and how much he should give bucky. i mean what.
[wrt smacking bucky around lmao genuinely i think curt and gale BOTH have crises about That Time Bucky Made Me Hit Him, but they're flavored differently: curt is upset bucky kept pushing at what curt tried to express as a limit, but gale is upset that he couldn't "control" himself in the face of bucky pushing him. i don't think either of them have the language to express any of this clearly, either, so it's a top drop clusterfuck both times, but it's worse for gale because he has the self-hate i'm-just-like-my-dad-after-all spiral waiting and ready to go, whereas curt's like "i'm fucked up over this. why am i fucked up over this. oh, because i didn't want to, i SAID i didn't want to, and bucky didn't listen to me." i've got thoughts about it]

...some follow up thoughts to this post. does GALE care about rank? inasmuch as anyone in the 100th does, which is a pretty low bar, but i feel like gale might actually give enough of a shit to be an impediment to curtbuck in the way it DEFINITELY is not an impediment for curtbucky.
on the one hand, no, because of the RAF fight. i cannot square "let his lt take on a fight he stepped up for" with "cares about rank like a lot a lot," personally. in which case there shouldn't be a huge issue with OTHER flagrant violations of rank and fraternization etc etc
but on the other hand. gale definitely cares about HIS rank and Being A Leader more than bucky does. again, not a high bar, but gale and jack have THE strongest protective instincts over their men out of all the brass we see, especially early on, and gale definitely has like... i don't wanna say a paternalistic outlook on being a major, but he Cares About His Men in a way bucky just... doesn't, as much? where bucky disengages to cope, gale engages MORE, takes on more of the responsibility of leadership. he checks in with dickie and bosser, he takes losing 350th crews REALLY personally, we all know i'm deranged about him circling the RAF fight like a guard dog, etc. plus they constantly have curt flying with gale, so i assume they did a little adaptational change and made curt 350th instead of 418th, which makes gale curt's DIRECT commanding officer and not just a higher rank, if my understanding of squadron command structure's accurate. so that's an added layer of complication that's not there for curtbucky.
and then somewhere in the middle is the way gale does shit like steal curt food and go against what i assume is procedure to keep curt in the air at trondheim at the risk of at LEAST the rest of the squad, if not the entire formation. and if bucky hadn't agreed with him on dropping back to keep curt safe, i don't entirely buy that gale would've accepted that loss either. which is kind of another point in favor of "doesn't care about command structure," but not respecting up isn't the same as taking advantage down, y'know?
so like... it gets a little fuckier with curtbuck. CURT doesn't care, obvs, but thinking about it i CAN see gale getting twisted up over it, at least a little. maybe not enough to stop him, though? like, this is fanfic, of course it's not gonna stop him, but does that WORK. god why does he have to be such a tough nut.
i do think gale falls into the trap, is the thing
the trap being looking at curt—who's less of a brag, less cocky than most of the other pilots, takes the opportunity to gas GALE up in front of the RAF guys instead of himself—and thinking "yeah, i could probably get one over on him in bed" in that "dude who thinks he's straight and is used to leading" kinda way
and when they DO get down to it, gale's just lying there staring at the ceiling thinking about how quick his knees hit the floor and how he didn't even think about arguing about it and curt takes a drag off the cigarette he stole out of bucky's hand and goes "you good?"
and gale has to be like "just. surprised. i guess." and curt and bucky are both like yeah we know you thought you were straight til five minutes ago and gale has to be like "not... that. i didn't think you'd be so bossy."
bucky, who did NOT fall into the trap because he can spot a guy who'll put him under just right from five miles away, laughs his ass off, and curt just grins and tucks his arms behind his head and goes "yeah. no one ever does, if it makes you feel better."
