FLYING SAUCER CONTACTEE BUCK NELSON’S RANCH - near Mountain View, Missouri. Map showing the location of 1950s/1960s-Era Flying Saucer Contactee Buck Nelson's Ranch in Texas County. It was here where local farmer and eccentric Buck Nelson (1895-1982), a frequent "contactee" and self-described space traveler, congregated with hundreds of fellow "Space Brother” believers for more than a decade and where he allegedly had his many strange encounters with friendly Venusians (and a “space dog”). Nelson’s extraterrestrial visitations and journeys are recounted in his self-published, pamphlet-sized book "My Trip to Mars, the Moon, and Venus" (1956). "Old Buck" hosted his annual "Space Craft Convention" at his ranch which featured contactee speakers, flying saucer-related vendors, and food/refreshments for sale. While these "Conventions" provided campy UFO festival fun, the ultimate purpose (aside from some profiteering) was to spread the peace-loving Space Brother Message of Love which were prescribed in their "Twelve Laws" as dictated to their chosen Contactee, Nelson. Never reaching Adamski-level fame, Buck Nelson remains an interesting character in UFO lore and is undoubtedly THE most-famous Ozark farmer to have allegedly traveled the Solar System in a flying saucer.
